The Story
First Peoples Heritage Week was established to bring awareness to Trinidad & Tobago's Indigenous roots. While Columbus arrived in 1498, the islands had been home to Amerindian peoples for millennia.
The week includes the significant Smoke Ceremony, traditionally used for purification and connecting with ancestors. It's a time for the Santa Rosa First Peoples Community to share their living heritage with the broader national community.
